Play Therapy

Primarily designed for children, utilizing play to express feelings and experiences.

Play Therapy is a form of psychotherapy designed mainly for children. In play therapy, the child uses toys, art, games, and stories to express feelings and experiences that might be hard to talk about in words. We provide a safe, comfortable playroom and observe or join in the play, sometimes inviting parents or siblings to participate. This natural form of expression helps kids process emotions, learn new behaviors, and heal in a developmentally appropriate way.

Who It’s For

Best for children (often ages 3–12) who struggle to communicate verbally. It is very helpful for kids who have experienced trauma, abuse, grief or loss, as well as those with anxiety, ADHD, autism, or behavioral issues.

How It Works

Your therapist might offer free play (non-directive) or lead specific games (directive) based on the child’s needs. As the child plays, true feelings emerge. For example, a child acting out aggressive play might be processing anger or stress at home. We then help the child (and family) understand and work through these feelings.

Benefits

Play therapy validates the child’s world and pace, making therapy feel safe and empowering. Over time, many children develop better communication and social skills, and gain confidence in expressing emotions. They often build lasting coping skills even after sessions end.
